Homa Samiei (Piano)

Homa is composer, pianist, and music educator. She is the co-founder of Najva Ensemble and Himeh Cultural House. She has graduated from the Art University of Tehran in composition, and has completed a Masters’ degree in Community Music Wilfrid Laurier University. Homa has appeared in numerous festivals as a composer and pianist in Tehran, Amsterdam, Mexico City, Tisnov, and Budapest, and has collaborated with several ensembles such as the International Contemporary Ensemble (New York), Thin Edge New Music Collective, Art Song Collaborative Project (Toronto), and Lucca Contemporary Music Festival (Italy).

Homa has been teaching piano for several years in Iran and Canada. Studying Community Music has opened her perspective to the role of music education for kids, adults and older adults. Homa believes that piano lessons can be a unique exploration of what the students enjoy, rather than a prescribed path of technique and repertoire. Learning music change lives by bringing hope and moments of peace into students’ lives.
