Kouhyar Babaeian

Kouhyar Babaeian (Tar, Setar, Iranian Music Ensemble)

Kouhyar Babaeian is a tar and setar player with over two decades of experience. He has studied with masters of these instruments including Hossein Alizadeh, and Mohammadreza Lotfi who famously represent the two leading schools of the tar in Iran. Kouhyar used to be the artistic director of the ensemble Râz-e Mehr and currently plays in An Trio in Toronto. Kouhyar teaches both beginner and advanced level students. His teaching for beginner students includes establishing the correct technical foundation and developing the musical ear while playing well-known and traditional pieces. For advanced students, he brings his in-depth knowledge of various tar techniques, the radif and tar repertoire with rigour and energy.
